But where the company is now — at the point of manufacturing many of these complex copper coils additively — has made the failures worthwhile.

When I first visited its Shelby Township facility back in 2022, Tucker Induction Systems was just beginning on its additive journey. As a Project DIAMOnD participant, the company had received a free Markforged desktop 3D printer and was beginning to find success making tooling, prototypes and some functional parts using this machine.
